CRGO
"BIS CERTIFIED CRGO"

“Elite Transformers & Switchgears, Jalandhar, only use BIS Certified CRGO (Laminations)”. Transformers CRGO (lamination) shall be made of BIS standard steel sheet and strip in accordance with certain Indian Standard (IS) specifications. BIS certification for CRGO (Cold Rolled Grain Oriented) steel signifies that the product meets the standards set by the Indian government for quality, safety, and performance. CRGO steel is widely used in electrical transformer cores due to its superior magnetic properties.

ABOUT OUR MANUFACTURNG PROCESS

Elite's Manufacturing Process

Our work on each new design of transformers starts according to the specific requirement of the customer, using our design techniques software to further ensure the reliability & accuracy of designs.

Transformer cores are assembled from prime grade cold rolled grain oriented (CRGO) silicon steel imported in rolls are then slit and cut to size based on the specific transformer design requirements. To achieve the desired core losses as per the technical requirements of the customer, cut to size CRGO strips are stress relieving with annealing process. This process relieves the CRGO strips of various stresses that develop during cutting, punching and mittring of core laminations and thereby reducing the no load losses. The lamination grade selected ensures to meet the guaranteed performance parameters to no load losses. The maximum flux density adopted is in line with customer's satisfaction or as per relevant standards (BIS/IEC). Cores are fabricated with maximum number of steps so as to utilize the maximum area in winding.

All windings are made from electrolytic grade copper or aluminium as per customer requirements. Aluminium or copper is procured from Hindalco & Nalco. The conductor is in the form of triple or double paper covered insulated strips and wire. The insulating paper is kraft paper from BILT (Ballarpur Industries Ltd.). The type of windings commonly used is single or multi conductor spiral or crossover and disc type. The types adopted also depend on the rated current and voltage levels. For voltage above 11 KV, Disc Winding is adopted generally. The solid insulation used in the windings is either in the form of rectangular spacers or common blocks assembled from pre-compressed high-density pressboard procured from high quality Indian manufacturers like RAMAN, SANAPATTI Mysore. It is this component of winding which imparts the desired mechanical strength. Besides optimum design, the quality of raw material plays a vital role in the reliability of a transformer under fault conditions. Hard pressboard blocks insulate the end transformer winding each other and the layers are insulated from each other by interlayer insulations.

The windings are assembled in the core and are supported radially by carefully designed number of pre-compressed pressboard spacers to withstand the radial forces generated under short circuits. When the drying process is over, the active part is ready to be put into the tank for final assembly.

Tanks are fabricated out of good quality steel sheets avoid unnecessary welds to reduce chances of leakages. The tanks are made of M.S. Steel plates / sheets with adequate bracing & stiffners. Tanks are pressure tested to withstand any type of inside or outside pressure. All the external surfaces are given a primary coat of zinc chromate, red oxide and two finishing coats of paint. The inner surfaces are given a coat of heat and oil resisting paint. Tanks are provided with pressed sheet radiators. Metal surface is then coated with zinc-chromate primer.

The marketing and service departments monitor the performance of transformers in the field, carry out preventive maintenance operations and act as a source of information. This feedback received enables continuous improvement of the product quality to ensure customer satisfaction. After sales department the stringent testing of the finished product vis-a-vis guaranteed technical parameters is done with equipment procured from Riken, Larsen & Toubro, Siemens, Automatic Electric, Osaw, Rishab, Nippon etc. accuracy of readings and data derived from these readings confirm to technical parameters of the well-designed transformers. Quality control activity starts from the selection of most suitable raw material. Every material / component has in-house material specification to ensure reliability. The specification clearly indicates the characteristics and the tests to be carried out for verification of the quality and reliability of the selected raw material & component. High standards of quality are achieved by thorough awareness of required standards Quality control is augmented substantially by a well-equipped laboratory capable of carrying out various routine tests and type tests specified in various standards. Each and every transformer is thoroughly tested before it leaves the unit.
